Fireworks likely cause of Hungry Horse fire

A vacant mobile home In Hungry Horse was destroyed by fire Monday night.

Hungry Horse, Martin City and Coram fire departments responded to the blaze, which quickly consumed the abandoned house. It was reported by a neighbor on First Avenue North at 9:30 p.m.

Hungry Horse Fire Chief Junior Nelson said he suspects the fire was started by fireworks.

About 20 to 25 firefighters responded to their pagers, but the building "was fully involved" in fire when they arrived, Nelson said.

The house had been sitting empty for a couple of months and the windows had been broken out of it, he said.

Flathead Electric Cooperative was also needed when the fire spread to a power pole.

"I'd like to thank Martin City and Coram for helping us," Nelson said.
