Modern dance troupe on stage

The modern dance company AzureVision Dance Collective offers a one-night only performance of "18 Women" on Feb. 23 at 8 p.m. at the O'Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.

"18 Women" is a collection of eclectic dances inspired by women and their life experiences. In the initial stages of the production, each choreographer was asked to choose a current event that has impacted her life or issue that she deals with everyday.

One of the works presented will feature a cross-generational corps of dancers engaging in movement that abstractly explores the question "what is a woman's responsibility to the next generation?"

Other concepts illuminated in the works are strength, worthiness, depression, chaos and freedom. Ranging in energy from a low hum to an irrepressible roar, the evening promises variety and intrigue.

AzureVision Dance Collective has been the dream of directors Stacy Jacobsen and Jennifer Walker-Wyatt.

"We are seeking to engage the community in meaningful connections between people and dance," Jacobsen said. "We want people to have the opportunity to explore their own kinetic awarenes and interpretation of the human experience. Our goal is to provide a vehicle, a conduit, for those kinds of discoveries. We hope to have a thought-provoking impact."

Choreographers for this production include Kay Izlar, Stacy Jacobsen, Natalie Molter, Karlene Ronning, Sara Finch-Seward, Liane Unterkofler, and Jennifer Walker-Wyatt.

"It is such an amazing thing to be a part of," Walker-Wyatt said. "Now we have a group of artistic and talented women willing to join forces to create an evening of dance. We hope to become a cornerstone in the arts community here in Northwest Montana for many years to come."

Tickets are general admission and available at Montana Coffee Traders Cafes in downtown Whitefish, Columbia Falls and Kalispell through Tuesday.

Advance ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Tickets are $15 at the door.
