Dinosaurs brought to life in Whitefish

Theater group travels back to prehistoric times

On Sunday, Feb. 26 the Whitefish Theatre Co. will present two performances at the O'Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish of Lava and Bones, an artistic spectacle for the whole family, featuring a creative theater group from British Columbia.

Mortal Coil, the Canadian-based imaginative theatrical group, brings a sense of magic and myth to its performing characters through the use of stilts, masks and fantastic costuming.

"Watching Mortal Coil was like floating, untethered in the work of Marc Chagall . . .the delight they invoked in me was childlike and completely luxurious," said writer Colin Thomas of The Fringe Review.

For its performances in Whitefish, Mortal Coil will present Lava and Bones in which puppetry, stilt dance, and song bring geological events to life as two characters travel back in time in search of a dinosaur. Along the way they see an exciting volcano dance on stilts, experience an earthquake, and are spied upon by a 14-foot stilted tyrannosaurus rex with teeth to match its stature.

Jo Ledingham, of The Georgia Straight, says of Lava and Bones, "Hands down, the most bizarre, bewitching and wildly creative performance of the day."

Performances are at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. with reserved seating. Reserve seat tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $8 for students.

Whitefish Theatre Company box office hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and two hours before a performance.
