Wide range of entertainment offered at the O'Shaughnessy

Ticket packages are available now as the Whitefish Theatre Company offers a new season of music, drama and film for 2006-07.

All performances are at the O'Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.

Theater

"Beauty and the Beast," Oct. 20-22 and 27-29

This timeless tale of enchantment and redemption kicks off the new season.

"The Music Man - Junior," Dec. 8-10, 15-17

This is the first Young Actors Program production on the season ticket. This American musical classic tells the story of a charismatic con man, Professor Harold Hill, redeemed by the love of a good woman, Marian the librarian.

"UP - The Man in the Flying Lawn Chair!" Feb. 16-18, 23-25, 2007

After flying at 16,000 feet in a lawn chair strapped to 50 helium balloons, Walter must steer his dreams closer to home in this bittersweet story of a family on tightrope between desire and despair.

"Enchanted April," March 23-25, 30-31, 2007

In gloomy post-war London, two frustrated housewives, an imperious dowager and a Garbo-esque actress decide to share the expenses of a rental villa in Italy. In the nourishing Mediterranean sunshine, all four ladies bloom again in ways they never expected.

"Dirty Blonde," May 10-12,17-19, 2007

This funny, bawdy, and poignant story of Mae West follows the wisecracking star through the ups and downs of her amazing career, and the high price paid to become an "icon."

Headwaters Dance Co., Sept. 16

Montana's only professional touring modern dance company, Headwaters Dance Co. showcases smart contemporary works, created by choreographers from all over the country.

Paul Taylor, Nov. 2

The award-winning Aussie storyteller delights his audiences as he celebrates the vanishing culture of his homeland. As an actor and trained circus clown, he presents the Aussie character through a blend of stories, music, dance and didjeridoo.

Black Curtain Theatre

"A Number," Nov. 5-6

Under the glaring spotlight of morality, a son confronts his father with the knowledge that he is merely one of "a number" of identical clones. Face to face, father and "sons" explore the ramifications of genetic engineering on society and on the very nature of love.

The Montreal-based company presents the classic musical drama of "Hansel and Gretel" with giant, larger-than-life puppets. Theatre Sans Fil has toured all over the world using a delightful mix of fantasy, poetry and magic to create performances that enthrall audiences of all ages.

Guy Clark, Sept. 23

A national treasure and folk country icon, Guy Clark's tough bare-boned sentiment reflects the man and his music with craggy wistful story-songs and plain spoken delivery.

Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem, Oct. 6

A crackerjack quartet of irresistible charisma, Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem is the ambassador of American acoustic music. The energetic program includes Appalachian fiddle tunes, vintage swing and country, backed by four-part harmony and percussion.

The Wailin' Jennys, Nov. 15

A Canadian trio of singers and songwriters with an eclectic range of folk and pop music styles mix with perfect harmony for an unforgettable evening of music and fun.

The John Jorgenson Quartet, Jan. 20

An exhilarating performance of virtuoso gypsy guitar, searing clarinet, and amazing fretwork bring this elegant music to life for audiences of all ages.

Samarabalouf, March 8

With roots in Eastern European music, Samarabalouf's repertoire bursts with blues, flamenco rock, and tango. The trio's energy and virtuosity bring the music of acoustic guitar, rhythmic guitar, and double bass, blending festive music with good humor.

Cascada de Flores, April 14, 2007

Explore the music and dance of Cuba and Mexico. Using traditional instruments and bracing vocals, Cascada de Flores ignites with passion and excitement.

Film

"Beowulf and Grendel," Sept. 8-10

Based on the oldest poem in the English language, Beowulf and Grendel is the origin of the classic hero/warrior myth which inspired J.R.R. Tolkien. The great Viking warrior hero, Beowulf, travels to a remote foreign land to fight an enemy he does not know for reasons he is unsure of. Once there, Beowulf's blind allegiance gives way to soul searching uncertainty in this flesh and blood telling of the classic. Shot entirely on location in Iceland, director Sturla Gunnarsson wisely chooses its breathtaking landscapes instead of lavish set design or computer imagining. Rated R.
