KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) Wildlife officials say they captured and killed a grizzly bear in northwestern Montana after the animal reportedly broke into a shed to eat turkey feed.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks said the male bear was about 2 years old. It had been captured earlier in the summer near Olney after repeatedly eating garbage and duck feed at residences.

The animal was relocated to the east side of Hungry Horse Reservoir, then captured again on Sept. 1 south of Condon. It was euthanized after officials determined it was unafraid of people.

There are an estimated 1,000 federally-protected grizzly bears in northwestern Montana. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is considering removing the population from the threatened species list.
