SOCCER: Whitefish boys slip by Laurel

LAUREL — A long road trip ended on a positive note for the Whitefish boys soccer team.

Noah Romagnuolo sandwiched goals around one by Xander Burger as the Bulldogs slipped past Laurel 3-2 in a Class A nonconference contest on Saturday.

Both teams were tied at 1-all at the half.

Logan Jones, who scored twice for Laurel, put the Locomotives on top 2-1 with his net shot at 63 minutes.

Burger scored four minutes later to tie it, again, and Romagnuolo had the game-winner at 76 minutes.

Eli Joos assisted on Whitefish’s first to goals. Mrvin Kimera assisted on the finale.

Laurel led in shots on goal 12-8. Colter Upton had 10 keeper saves for Whitefish.

Whitefish (3-1-1) tied Billings Central on Friday.

Whitefish hosts Columbia Falls on Tuesday.

BILLINGS — Morgan Ferestad had four goals to power Billings Central to an easy Class A nonconference win over the Polson Pirates.

Zoie Althoff and an own goal completed the scoring for the victors.

Billings Central, up 3-0 at the half, had 15 shots on goal to none for Polson. Megan Rost had eight keeper saves for the Pirates.

Polson has a conference contest on Thursday at Libby.
