LIBBY — Bonners Ferry buried Libby with two big innings, holding off a late rally to win a 6-5 nonconference softball game on Thursday afternoon.

The Badgers scored three runs in the second inning and, after a Libby (7-2) got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth, scored three more runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-1 lead.

“We started a bit slow,” Libby coach Dean Thompson said. “They scored three more in the fifth and we started hitting the ball well.”

Libby answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the sixth. The Loggers had runners on second and third with two outs in the seventh inning, but popped out to shallow left field to end the game.

Sammee Bradeen was 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles to lead the Loggers and Alyssa Marshall was 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs.

Kassy Skeen led Bonners Ferry at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Two other players also picked up two hits in the win.

Libby will play county rivals Eureka on the road on Saturday.
