WRESTLING: Braves in third at PNW Classic

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Flathead earned six pins in the opening round of the Pacific Northwest Classic wrestling tournament on Friday at University High School, moving into a tie for third place at the two-day event.

Hunter Rush (106 pounds), Bryce Shaffer (113), Tanner Russell (126), Trae Vasquez (132), Payton Hume (152) and Tucker Nadeau (170) all posted pins and Kenyon Fretwell (145) and Hunter Wellcome (182) advanced on decisions.

Matt Gash-Gilder (220) and Michael Lee (285) earned first round byes.

Spokane Mead is in the team lead after the opening day with 36 points and host University has 29.5 in second place.

Flathead is tied with East Valley (Spokane) for third place with 28 points.
