Cross Country, Track and Field
Flatheadís Jake Perrin didnít just step out from his older brother, Zachís, shadow this season, he emerged as one of the best distance runners the Bravesí storied program has ever produced.
The Gatorade Montana Athlete of the Year in track and field in 2016 (an award his brother won in 2012), Jake Perrin won every state distance championship in only his second full season as a competitive runner, and all in record style. He claimed the state cross country title in the fall in a course-record 14:47.90, won the 1,600-meter race with an all-class state record time of 4:12.06 and was victorious in the 3,200 in 9:04.35, the fastest ever run in the state.
Perrin will attend Gonzaga University and run for the Bulldogs this fall.
Perrinís explosive improvement as a runner extended even beyond the end of the high school season. In June, he ran the two-mile race at the prestigious Brooks PR in Renton, Washington and covered the distance in 8:58.09, a personal best and a time that converts to the fastest ever run by a Montana boy.
