Calling all Elrod Elementary fathers and father-figures: A national program is launching at the school to increase positive male role model involvement.

Watch D.O.G.S (Dads of Great Students) will kick off with a Dads and Kids’ Pizza Night  from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Elrod School.

This program is not just for dads. “Elrod Men-tors” may be fathers, uncles, grandfathers or friends and are invited to attend this free event with students to learn more about the program.

Men who want to participate in the program are asked to volunteer at the school a minimum of one to three half or full days during the year.

Watch D.O.G.S volunteers will participate in playground, lunch and academic activities such as flash cards or reading.

“We have a lot of women who volunteer, but we have a harder time getting men,” said program organizer and Elrod teacher Barb Andersen.
