William ‘Bill’ Hale, 87

William “Bill” Hale, 87, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Sunday, April 26, 2015, at his home in Kalispell.

He was born Feb. 27, 1928, in Afton, Wyoming, to Malinda and William Lloyd Hale.

Bill was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He joined the U.S. Navy at 15 years of age and served two years in the South Pacific on the USS Gallatin as a radar operator and ship’s photographer. After being discharged, he attended Art Center College of Design, majoring in motion picture science.

After graduation from Art Center, Bill met and married Kathryn Sorenson in the St. George Temple. Bill and Katie raised six children in California but wanted to fulfill a lifelong dream of moving to Rollins to build a log home. After 40 years of happiness and hard work, Katie passed away in her log home overlooking beautiful Flathead Lake. Bill was alone for two years, then was blessed when he met Barbara. They were married on Aug. 11, 2001, in the Cardston, Alberta, Canada Temple. Barbara was by his side to care for him though all of his health concerns.

Bill went to work for Northwest Montana Human Resources as an audio video specialist with the cable company for 14 years. Then AT&T hired Bill to operate Channel 9, the community channel airing the city council meetings live every Monday night and producing other video productions to be aired on Channel 9.

Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara, of 14 years; children, David Clair Hale, William Christy Hale, Rande Scott Hale, Lori Kathleen Grimes, Julie Ann Widtfeldt and John Boyd Hale; three stepchildren, David, Marjorie and Cindy; and a sister, Marilyn Pearce Bangerter; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Bill’s grave will be dedicated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, at Lakeview Cemetery in Polson.

Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home is caring for Bill’s family. You are invited to go to www.jgfuneralhome.com to offer condolences and view Bill’s tribute wall.
