BUTTE — Shay Smithwick-Hann threw four touchdown passes, three in the second half, as the West romped to a 34-18 victory in the 64th annual Montana East-West Shrine football game Saturday night.

Smithwick-Hann, a former Glacier High School standout, had scoring strikes of 44, 47, 12 and 91 yards.

Smithwick-Hann, who will begin fall camp at the University of Montana next month, completed 22 of 31 passes for 324 yards. He did not throw an interception.

Columbia Falls quarterback Mitchell Wassam shared time with Smithwick-Hann, completing 2 of 7 passes for 19 yards. He threw one interception.

Glacier’s Taylor Hart led the West in rushing with 55 yards on eight carries.

Eureka’s Chad Price, a cornerback for the West, had an interception.

Drew Owens caught three of the TD passes and Casey Crippen was on the receiving end of the last one, which covered a Shrine record 91 yards.

The East jumped in front 18-0, but it was all West after that.

This marked the first time the Shrine game was held outside of Great Falls.

Smithwick-Hann received the Silver Nail Award for being voted the game’s outstanding player.

Joe Andrews, a linebacker from Polson, was named the West’s defensive player of the game.

Wassam left the game in the opening quarter after suffering a concussion.

The West, which has won two straight, trails the series 36-28.
