Whitefish Theatre Company presents music and dance by Jesús Muñoz Flamenco

The Whitefish Theatre Company presents the music and movement of Jesús Muñoz Flamenco as the final installment of its 2023-24 music series.
Recognized for his dedication to preserving and innovating the improvisational philosophy and language of Flamenco dance and music, Jesús Muñoz Flamenco will perform at 7:30 p.m. May 10 at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.
Jesús Muñoz Flamenco is a riveting ensemble of international dancers and musicians who explore dynamic, visionary movements and sounds inspired by cante flamenco, or “flamenco singing.” Muñoz founded the company in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with a passion for creating original and visceral performances — fusing his American roots with traditional Spanish Flamenco influence. The company has formed a physical, visual, and sonic vocabulary that intersects Flamenco with Latin, jazz and hip-hop, reflecting the experiences and backgrounds of company artists and audiences. The result is a bold transcendence of ancient rhythm and tradition, evoking deep emotion and profound artistry.
Since its inception, his company has been on over 2,000 stages, introduced Flamenco to more than 60,000 people and has created eight original full concerts whose quality of work has reached world-class stature and reputation with collaboration from prominent artists, according to a press release.
Muñoz has performed, produced and directed in the United States, Canada and Spain. In addition to founding and directing Jesus Muñoz Flamenco, he is co-director of the Detroit-based La Chispa and Company. Muñoz also teaches at his Albuquerque school, Casa Flamenca.
In March 2013, he was a featured soloist at Lincoln Center for 100 Years of Flamenco in New York City. He has also been a featured soloist at Jazz Cafe at Music Hall, the Detroit Institute of the Arts’ Spanish Masters Series, the National Museum of Dance, Nasher Museum at Duke University, and has closed for the Denver Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra in 2011. He has performed at the University of Sevilla, the Spanish Embassy, Palacio Andaluz and for the Prince of Spain.
His current projects include choreographing for the world premiere of Rudolfo Anaya’s Rosalinda and debuting Jesus Muñoz Flamenco: Red Note as part of the first annual partnership concert with the prestigious National Hispanic Cultural Center.
