Will Rudbach and Sam Engellant paired up to lead a Glacier doubles sweep of Flathead, while Leilani Lennarz grabbed a straight set victory to lead the Glacier girls over the Bravettes in Crosstown tennis Thursday.

Rudbach and Engellant normally star in singles for the Wolfpack, but grabbed a two-set victory over the Braves’ No. 1 pairing, Garett Andoretti and Jack Thompson, as Glacier took the dual win 7-1.

“I think we both know we could be quite a force if we got our symmetry and chemistry together,” said Engellant. “Today was not our best showing, but we still got the job done.”

Glacier’s other three doubles pairings also took care of business. picking up victories in straight sets, including a 6-1, 6-1 performance from Jace Isles and Kevin Fortin.

In singles, Kutuk White stepped into the No. 1 spot with Rudbach and Engellant playing doubles. White took the win over Flathead’s Holden Askvig.

Robby Thornburg and Carl Bitney also picked up wins in their matches.

Flathead’s only victory on the boys side came in the final match of the day with Michael Palmer taking a three-set win over Gavin Rodriguez.

“We had a couple of good growth stories,” Flathead coach Travis Cattron said. “It’s still a growth season with younger kids, but a good day for tennis overall.”

The Glacier girls also picked up a 7-1 victory over Flathead with Lennarz picking up a two-set win over Bravettes No. 1 Elle Westover.

“It was a pretty fun match, I think we had some really good rallies,” Lennarz said. “It took a bit of working out to get warmed up.”

Sarah Loran nabbed the sole point for Flathead with a straight sets win over Glacier’s No. 2 Miley Fritz.

Quindy Gronley and Claire Ennis rounded out the singles with wins for the Wolfpack, including a 6-0, 6-0 victory for Ennis.

In doubles, last season’s state runners-up Haven Speer and Sarah Downs led a Glacier sweep with a straight-set victory over Flathead’s Chloe Converse and Keegan Williams.

In the four doubles matches Glacier only dropped three games — all of them coming in Kendall Van Aken and Maddie Davis’ 6-1, 6-2 victory.

“I think the matches in a lot of ways were closer than the scores showed,” Glacier coach Josh Munro said. “We’ve got to be a little more efficient with some of the things we are doing, but otherwise a pretty solid day.”
